In my earlier post, i mentioned about adding additional snap buttons to my coolababy pocket CD, as izz's waist is getting bigger. the smallest setting is kind of tight and if i go to the next setting, it'll be too loose. since i have the kam snap pliers and buttons, i decided to add snap buttons to the CDs on my own, in between those 2 settings.
original pocket CD. there is space in between the snap buttons on top most row, which is where I plan to put the extra snap buttons. |
this is what pocket CD looks like if u turn it inside out |
things you'll need: snap buttons and the pliers. you can google on where to buy these locally. |
for the purpose of adding extra buttons, you'll need only the cap and the socket. you don't need the stud, as they are already at the CD flap. FYI, both the socket and stud uses the same cap type. |
see, the studs are already on the CD flap. so you'll need only the caps and sockets. |
before i do anything, i check whether the socket fits into the stud. luckily it fits. if it doesn't, there's no point in adding the extra buttons, as they won't snap close. FYI, the size 20 snap buttons is the standard size button. |
i try placing the cap in between existing caps, and it fits nicely. |
hold the CD this way and you can start pricking the material with the cap. i forgot to mention that the cap is exactly like a thumbtack (only it's plastic), so use the pointy part to prick the material. |
once the cap goes through the fabric it'll look something like this from the outer part of the CD. |
now put the socket into the cap |
it'll look something like this |
and then use the pliers to flatten the pointy part of the cap. press hard to get it as flat as possible. be careful not to ruin the microfleece fabric underneath the cap. press hard but not too hard ok. |
this is what it looks like from the front of the pliers |
yay, 1 extra button added to the CD. so now you need to do another on the other side |
both sides done. if you notice, the one on the left... the extra snap button is not on the same level as the existing snap buttons. why? because the cap underneath the socket doesn't have enough space to be put exactly in between existing caps (this shows that existing snap buttons don't really have 100% precision in terms of measurement when they got snapped on the CD). don't worry, it won't affect the CD at all. izz won't feel any difference as the margin is too small. |
see what i mean? on one side, the cap fits perfectly in between existing caps, whereas on the other side, it can't really fit. so i had to make it lower. lower is a better choice compared to making it higher as that will only make the thigh opening bigger, which can lead to leakage. |
this is how it looks like when snapped. nice. but only that night when i wanted to put it on izz, i realized that i should have snapped 2 more extra buttons (1 on each side), as the flaps has 2 studs. since it's gonna take some time to add the buttons, i decided to add them later. for the night, izz just wore the CD with only 1 snap buttons secured on each side. no problem at all. |
this is another pocket CD which i've added additional snap buttons. izz will be wearing this tonight. |
so, if your snap-buttons-one-size-CD-wearing babies are in between sizes, this would be a good project to take up. very easy but you may need help with the pressing of pliers to flatten the pointy part of the cap. good luck!
